Shepherds Hut Specification
Steel frame chassis Our Chassis are built from strong steel to our own design, for strength and stability. The Frame is powder coated for a very long lasting finish.
A Steering Axle and draw bar for maneuverability
Wheels
Our strong iron wheels are handcrafted and finished in hammerite black for a very long lasting finish.
Exterior We use high quality thermal wood. Top quality wood that has been thermally treated - it does not rot or mould and, therefore, is a natural product that maintains its shape and size.
During the thermal treatment process, the wood also acquires a beautiful brown colour and its velvet-like surface is pleasant to the touch. At it's best the wood possesses nuances of antique and fine-wood shades that will fade to a beautiful silver or can be oiled to maintain their colour.
Having Said that.......Paint
If you would like a painted finish we can paint your Shepherds Hut in a choice of colours - we use quality exterior wood paint (used also on Beach Huts for its durability and weather resistance). The interior is painted using good quality paints in a choice of finishes and colours.
Roof
Hand built steel frame curved roof. Our Shepherd Hut's roof is fully insulated and water proofed to building regulations. The corrugated outer roof is plastic-coated and comes in a variety of colours. You can colour co-ordinate your roof with a painted Shepherd's Hut or choose a black or silver finish.
Windows
Our windows can be made to any size. Double glazed to current uv values and building regulations. Windows can be painted any colour and are lockable for security.
Doors
Our Stable doors and double doors are made from hardwood with a hardwood threshold, they can be oiled or painted in a choice of colours. They come with wrought iron handles are fitted with locks.
Interior
The interior ceiling and walls are painted tongue and groove. With skirting board and an optional dado/furniture rail (at no extra cost).
The interior is painted in a choice of hard wearing finishes and colours.
Insulation
Our Shepherds Huts are completely insulated in the timber framed cavities in the floor, walls and ceiling so can be used all year round as an extension to your home. We use modern insulation (used in timber domestic buildings) for its thermal properties and also for its acoustic insulation qualities. When you are inside one of Shepherds Huts you will be very surprised how quiet it is!
The Chart shows an Energy Rating based on the build and insulation of our Shepherds Huts - the average home in the UK is a D/E band for Energy Efficiency and Environmental impact.
Floor Plans Because all of our Shepherds huts are built especially for you we will be happy to talk over your requirements. We can then provide a detailed floor plan and give you a price for your finished Shepherd’s Hut.

Don't forget, your Shepherds Hut is bespoke and can be built any size, with several choices of finishes and colours with a host of extras, but as a guide.......
For a New Forest Shepherds Hut
Measuring 2.10m (7ft) wide x 3.5m (11ft 6”) long internally.
(This is the most practical size, if the width is any shorter you would not be able to fit a day bed or full length bed in the Shepherds Hut without sacrificing some of the cavity wall and, therefore, the insulation!)
Built as above with 1 double opening painted cottage window and 1 single painted cottage window, stable door, painted interior and timber flooring.

OPTIONS AND EXTRAS
Wood Burning Stoves
Our Wood Burning Stoves are Handcrafted in Devon. They are safe, easy to light, quick to warm up and have the power to stay warm through the longest winter night. The vent system means the heat can be controlled.
The top is large enough to cook on and will easily boil a kettle - when the door is open you can toast bread (with plenty of butter - nothing smells or tastes more delicious!)
We can also fit stoves with an oven on the side!
Flooring
Hard wearing engineered oak flooring.
You can choose a variety of flooring from Solid Wood to Sea Grass!
Sea Grass Floor Covering Hard wearing Sea Grass comes in a choice of colours and weaves.
Electrics Carried out by qualified Electrical Contractor and fully certificated.
Electrical sockets and wall lights come in a wide range of styles and can be fitted anywhere in the Shepherds Hut.
Day Bed (with trundle under) Wrought iron day bed in a choice of white, cream or black with quality mattress/es. The trundle pulls out to make a full size double or 2 singles!
Furniture We can build fitted furniture or source pieces of furniture to fit perfectly into your Shepherds Hut - natural wood can be oiled or waxed or the furniture can be professionally painted in any colour or finish (including paint effects)
Curtains Fully lined professionally made curtains in a choice of fabrics
