We've had a few enquiries about our Shepherds Huts Woodburning Stoves. We don't make or supply them ourselves. They are hand crafted for us by: http://www.windysmithy.co.uk/

It's our wedding anniversary today - I thought he'd forgotten - no card or flowers with my cup of tea this morning? no little packages waiting when I came downstairs after he'd gone to work?, I checked the drive and the garage - no shiny car with a bow on the roof? But......... I've just been out to our Shepherds Hut and my lovely husband must have got up at the crack of dawn!! He's decorated our Shepherds Hut with flowers and candles, the woodburning stove is full of oak logs ready to be lit and there is a table for 2 ready for, admittedly a takeaway - but, for me, I couldn't think of anything more thoughtful or romantic! |

What a beautiful morning here in the New Forest - been working too hard lately and have decided to spend the afternoon in our Shepherds Hut! - have made a picnic and a victoria sponge (yum) so no returning to the house (and phone!) plenty of logs for the woodburning stove, a kettle, a good book, a couple of small dogs and all set for a relaxing few hours!

Our beautiful Wood burning Stoves for our Shepherds Huts are made by Windy Smithy, of course they make stoves for many other uses and situations - here's what they have to say.... Our efficient and lightweight burners have been developed for use in living vehicles, caravans, boats and yurts, where an attractive heat source is required to keep going all night in total safety.
The revolutionary vent system allows for instant control of the air intake, which combined with the airtight door and dual airflow, permits the logs to be burnt with remarkable efficiency. |

We have decided to try hiring our Shepherds Huts to Campsites and Bed and Breakfasts for the Summer. If there are any Campsites or Bed and Breakfasts who would like to hire a Shepherds Hut from us to rent to their guests please contact us! Glamping (shorthand for glamorous camping or as one American urbandefinitions site said - "I ain't sleeping in no tent!") has really taken off in the past few years and we know that people love Shepherds Huts, fully insulated with log burners and easily accommodating a double bed. |

FARROW AND BALL have just released their new colour trends for 2012 - They say that unexpected colour combinations and colour blocking are the key looks for this year. Strong greys are accented with warm yellows and clean blues for a really modern, graphic look, while subdued blue-greys and delicate purples remain fresh when paired with brighter colours in dynamic combinations. We always try to use the Farrow and Ball colours on our Shepherds Huts as they have such beautiful colours! |

Just made my sloe gin! See If I can wait long enough this year before sampling it?! I've always been told to wait until after the first frost before picking sloes, but I waited too long last year and when I went to pick them from my usual place they'd all gone so went sloe picking earlier this year! We love sloe gin, even if you hate the taste of gin, adding sloes and sugar completely transforms it into a delicious, warming, comforting drink. Growing up as a child our parents and grandparents didn't think twice about administering alcohol to us for medicinal purposes. |

We haven't written anything on our blog page for ages! We've been flat out with Christmas coming up - there's always a mad rush to 'get everything done by Christmas!!' This week we went for a glorious walk in the New Forest and gathered chestnuts to make chestnut stuffing. They were certainly plentiful and we followed the country rule of taking a few chestnuts from beneath random trees along our walk. Here's the recipe I use, absolutely delicious! - 14 oz chestnuts
- 2 tbsp olive oil

I love to see the pigs in The New Forest at this time of the year, the pigs join our lovely ponies, donkeys and cattle on the Forest. Commoners let their pigs loose on the Forest to hoover up fallen acorns which are poisonous to ponies and cattle, if the other animals were to eat too many acorns it could cause internal bleeding which can be fatal. The pigs also eat beech mast, crab apples, which are in huge abundance on the Forest floor at the moment - we used to collect them as children and make them into crabapple jelly - you wouldn't want to eat one raw and not sure if it would do ou too much good either. |
